As a major supplier within the construction industry, VolkerBrooks recognises the social responsibility it holds to employees, the public and others who may be affected by its activities, to manage and control the impact it has on its shared environment.
We operate a formal Environmental Management System [EMS] which has both EMAS [Eco-management and Audit Scheme] and ISO 14001:2004 certification. The EMS comprises one part of our Integrated Management System, which is available to all personnel and sites via our network. In addition to audits for certification purposes, our works are audited internally as part of our performance management system. We are proud of our environmental record and that we have had no prosecutions or cautions for environmental issues in the past five years.
The company maintains a register of environmental aspects that are evaluated using a risk assessment procedure to determine significance. The aspects considered, and the assigned ratings, are reviewed annually and reflect our experience in managing the risks, changes in equipment and procedures.
During the course of our works environmental briefings and tool box talks are given to educate and instruct employees and encourage their active participation in managing our activities. Method statements are also prepared to plan and control such activities, and are used to explain to those involved how they should act when carrying out their work.
All personnel, site-based or not, receive environmental awareness training provided by the British Safety Council.
